"This podcast made such a difference to me this week! The message literally put fresh life into what I thought couldn’t be done! Now here we are a few days later and my laundry room is organized, completed my FIT power hours, and a half marathon under my belt. Last week I didn’t believe I could do any of that but Kim’s birthday podcast, something to celebrate, was exactly what these dry bones needed to wake up and go get it..Look out work week here I come!"
3 Scriptures to Pray Before You Eat
1. Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Did you catch that?
God wants to eat with you, He wants to sit at the table with you. He's asking you to invite Him in.
This scripture completely changed my life.
When I struggled with food or when those old struggles start to surface. It’s always because I'm doing it my way.
But God doesn't want this, He wants us to Honor in Him in our bodies. Before we eat we need to pray to Him, invite Him to the table and surrender our appetites to Him and repair our relationship with food.
If surrendering your appetite is new, remember my SAFE acronym: Surrender Appetite Faithfully Everyday.
Here's a simple example of what to say:
"God, I’m going to pause in this moment and invite you to the table to eat with me, I lay my appetite at your feet, I surrender it to you Help me honor you in my body!"
Will you try this and tell me what happens? I want to know how the Lord moves when you do this.
2. 1 Corinthians 6:12-13 MSG
Just because something is technically legal doesn’t mean that it’s spiritually appropriate. If I went around doing whatever I thought I could get by with, I’d be a slave to my whims.
You know the old saying, “First you eat to live, and then you live to eat”? Well, it may be true that the body is only a temporary thing, but that’s no excuse for stuffing your body with food…
Did you hear that?
Being a slave to my whims living to eat… that really hit me. I don’t want to live that way – controlled by food, do you? God has freed us.
Where are you enslaved, and what are you enslaved by?
Pray about it! God will show you. Especially if they are unhealthy habits that are destroying your health, your liver and heart, your gut health, your sleep, and causing you stress.
Begin to look at what you buy and crave is it separating you from God’s best version of you? Is it causing diabetes, high cholesterol, headaches, is it making you at war with yourself?
If it is not worth it, No! God has freed us, let’s walk in that freedom! Amen!
3. 1 Peter 5:8
Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.
I believe the devil uses dieting and fitness to really mess with women. And the battle is in our minds.
I know this to be true, because not only did I live it, I hear it from our sisters every day.
Does this sound familiar…he tempts you with food games and then he beats you up with thoughts for doing it?
Maybe you overeat, maybe you undereat, maybe you overtrain, maybe you don’t work at all...all of these are an out of balance extreme relationship with food and fitness.
The devil knows he can get us here, friends! He preys on us just like a roaring lion he knows just where to get us.
Picture the horrid scene, I can never watch, the antelope is running as fast it can, but the Lion is faster, more shrewd, and oh so determined.
This is our enemy...he’s hunting us...in our thought lives. But God didn’t leave us alone to fight for ourselves.
Before you eat and while you eat, prepare your mind and tune into the Holy Spirit.
Be alert and cautious, sweet friend! This war isn’t about the food, it’s about ruining the plan God has for your life by keeping you stuck living in your head and defeated!
God’s gift of self-control comes from the Holy Spirit. He didn’t leave us alone to face this battle. 2 Tim 1:7 and Galatians 5:22-23 tell us we can have self-control.
Self-control doesn't equal perfection, so don’t fall for the perfection trap here.
We are human, but we have the power to live far above what we settle for.
From my experience, God has raised me up to a level where I can have one cookie. I could’ve never done that before. I can eat 10 tortilla chips and some salsa, and I’m totally satisfied. I don’t devour the whole bag and then hate myself for it and drowned myself with guilty, negative thoughts.
The smallest place to live is in our heads.
But we do it don’t we?
Look up today, look at what God has blessed you with. We are so much more than fitness goals...
Our Prayer
Dear God,
In the day when I cried out to you, you were there and you saved me from this dieting pit. Father, I pray that all over my sisters right now. We need your clarity and strength to repair our relationship with food. Dieting has taught us a worldly view of food, but we want a spirit-led walk. Encourage us to not let yesterday's overindulgence or laziness ruin today! Your word tells us, this is the day the Lord has made let’s rejoice and be glad in it! And that your mercies are new every morning. Help us see each day as a new opportunity to give ourselves a chance to live by your grace, walk in your spirit, and make you Lord over our lives as you do even our food, fitness, and body image with us.
In Jesus' name, amen!
