5 Things I Would Tell My Younger Self

Birthdays have a way of making us reflect, don't they? I recently celebrated my 55th birthday, but you know what they say, age is just a number. I feel more alive than ever, and whether you're 15 or 90 or somewhere in between, these life lessons I've gathered over the years are like a compass pointing straight to Jesus.

I'm going to be sharing three foundational scriptures, here is our first.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV

5 Lessons I Wish My Younger Self Knew

1: If God isn't in it, you don't want it!

You know, it's so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, chasing after things that glitter but may not be gold. If God's not at the center, it's like building a house on sand. Sweet friend, trust His plan. If it's in His will, it's worth the wait.

2: If it costs you your peace, it's too expensive!

Peace is a precious gift from God, and if something is stealing your peace, it's not worth it. Whether it's a toxic relationship, a stressful job, or even a personal struggle, don't be afraid to let it go. God's peace surpasses all understanding, and it's worth guarding with everything you've got.

3: The numbers only have the power you give them.

Let God define you. In a world obsessed with numbers – age, weight, likes on social media – remember, they only hold the power you give them. Let God define you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and His opinion is the only one that truly matters.

4: Your pain, mistakes, and insecurities are the road to Jesus.

Our journey to Jesus is often paved with the broken pieces of our past. Don't be ashamed of your scars; they are the beautiful testimony of God's grace. Your past does not define you, but it can refine you. Lean on Him, sweet friend, and let your story be a beacon of hope for others. Your healing is a testament to the grace of God and someone else needs to hear what He has brought you through.

5: God will promote you in His timing.

Keep going because God's equipping you now. Are you in the fight, or have you quit? The path to your destination may be harder than you think and take longer than you want it to but it’s going to be worth it. Remember, God is preparing you for what He has prepared for you. Stay strong, stay confident, and stay rooted in His love. The journey is part of the destination and one day you will look back and see God was and always is working!

I want to share something I read from Theology of Work that really encouraged me and this will serve as our faith fuel.

“In Isaiah 45:9 God is the potter and Israel is the clay. God is molding Israel according to his plans and purposes. What was once true of Israel is also true of us. God is the potter and we are the clay. He is in the process of shaping us, so that we might be everything he has created us to be.

In the New Testament book of Ephesians, we glimpse a moving picture of God’s grace. This grace not only saves us, but also remakes us. According to Ephesians 2:10, “[W]e are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” God is no amateur potter, but an artisan who has already begun to shape us into a masterpiece. God sees potential in us that we cannot grasp. He has hope for us far beyond our expectations. He will use us to do more than we imagine if we allow him to work in and through us.” (God’s Masterpiece | Theology of Work)

Thank you for joining me today on this heart-to-heart episode. Remember, God uses it all – the joys, the pains, and everything in between – if you let Him. I hope these lessons speak to your heart and encourage you on your journey.
