Here are 5 Ways to Honor God in Your Body and Reject Worldly Fitness

1: Understanding Worldly Fitness vs. Godly Fitness

Okay, let’s get real. The fitness industry loves to tell us that we need to be thinner, more toned, and, well, just plain perfect. But here’s the thing: God isn’t looking at our waistlines. The world’s view of fitness often revolves around appearance, vanity, and perfection. It tells us that our worth is tied to how we look, how much we weigh, or how many likes we get on a photo. But God’s view of fitness is so much more profound.

Fit God’s Way Mindset Shift

1 Samuel 16:7 says, "The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." reminds us that while people may focus on outward appearances, God looks at our hearts. Isn’t that freeing? Godly fitness is about so much more than how we look—it's about honoring our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit and glorifying God in everything we do.

2: Shifting the Focus: From Vanity to Stewardship

One of the biggest mindset shifts we can make is moving from vanity to stewardship. Our bodies aren’t just for show; they’re vessels for God’s work! So, instead of working out to fit the world’s mold, let’s exercise with purpose, fuel our bodies with nourishing foods, and get the rest we need—all to better serve God and the people around us.

Practical Tips:

  • Exercise with Purpose: Instead of working out to change your appearance, exercise to increase your strength and stamina so you can better fulfill your God-given responsibilities.
  • Eat to Fuel Your Mission: Focus on nourishing your body with healthy foods that give you the energy to do what God has called you to do, rather than dieting to meet a certain weight goal.
  • Rest in God’s Peace: Prioritize rest and sleep, understanding that God calls us to take care of our bodies through rest just as much as through activity.

Fit God’s Way Mindset Shift

Colossians 3:17 reminds us, "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." When we approach fitness with a heart of gratitude and stewardship, we honor God and reject the world’s shallow standards.

3: Rejecting Comparison: Finding Identity in Christ

Let’s talk about the comparison trap, because, let’s face it, we’ve all been there. Social media can be a real downer if we let it, right? But here’s the truth: You are fearfully and wonderfully made just as you are.

Practical Tips:

  • Limit Social Media Consumption: If certain accounts or images make you feel less than or trigger unhealthy comparison, consider unfollowing or limiting your time on social media.
  • Focus on God’s Truth: Spend time in the Word and in prayer, reminding yourself of who you are in Christ. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and your worth is not determined by your appearance.
  • Celebrate Your Progress: Instead of comparing yourself to others, celebrate the progress you’ve made in your own health journey, no matter how small. Every step you take toward honoring God with your body is a victory.

Fit God’s Way Mindset Shift:

Galatians 1:10 asks us, "Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ." Let’s focus on pleasing God rather than seeking the approval of others.

4: Embracing a Balanced, God-Honoring Lifestyle

We live in a world that loves extremes—and fitness promotes them: extreme diets, extreme workouts, extreme perfectionism… you name it. But God calls us to balance. The Bible tells us to be well-balanced in 1 Peter 5:8.

Practical Tips:

  • Balanced Diet: Avoid extremes like cutting out entire food groups or following fad diets that promise quick results. Check out my Fit Gods’ Wat Freebie for recipes.
  • Moderate Exercise: Engage in physical activity that you enjoy and that fits into your life. There is no one-size-fits-all fitness. What matters is consistency and enjoying the process.
  • Mind-Body-Spirit Connection: Don’t neglect your spiritual health in pursuit of physical fitness. Spend time with God, meditate on His Word, and ensure that your fitness routine enhances your spiritual well-being rather than detracting from it.

Fit God’s Way Mindset Shift:

Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8 AMP)

5: Finding Freedom in Christ

Finally, sisters, let’s talk about freedom. The world’s fitness standards can feel like a heavy burden, but Christ offers us true freedom. John 8:36 says, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” So let’s exercise with joy, rest in God’s love, and let go of the pressure to conform. You are loved, exactly as you are, and that’s where true freedom lies. Give yourself the freedom to boldly be you. The women God created so uniquely for His purposes and plans.

Finally, sisters, let’s talk about freedom. The world’s fitness standards can feel like chains—pressuring us to look a certain way, act a certain way, or meet impossible standards. But Christ offers us true freedom.

Practical Tips:

  • Focus on Grace: Remember that you are saved by grace, not by how you look or what you achieve. Allow this truth to set you free from the pressure to conform to worldly standards.
  • Exercise Your Faith: As you work on your physical fitness, don’t forget to exercise your faith. Trust in God’s plan for your body and your life, and know that He is with you every step of the way.
  • Rest in God’s Love: At the end of the day, rest in the knowledge that you are deeply loved by God, exactly as you are. Let this love be the foundation of all your efforts, in fitness and beyond.

Faith in Action:
John 8:36 says, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." In Christ, we are free from the world’s standards and free to pursue a life that honors God in all things.

Thank you so much for joining me I hope this episode has inspired you to reject the world’s fitness standards and embrace a Christ-centered approach to health. Remember, your worth is in Christ alone, and your body is a beautiful temple that deserves to be treated with love and grace.

Until next time, stay strong in the Lord, and keep shining His light in everything you do.

Remember You are Strong. Confident. His.
