Let’s start by talking about seed oils—ingredients like canola, soybean, and corn oil that are in so many processed foods. These oils are high in omega-6 fatty acids, which, when consumed in excess, can promote inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation is a silent contributor to many health issues, including obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome.
Here's a list of the eight industrial toxic seed oils Canola, Corn, Cottonseed, Soy, Sunflower, Safflower, Grapeseed, and Rice bran.
Get Wisdom, Get Understanding:
When your body is inflamed, it’s under stress. This stress can disrupt hormone regulation, including the hormones that control hunger and fat storage. Consistently consuming seed oils can lead to a state of chronic low-grade inflammation, making it harder to lose weight and easier to gain.
Faith in Action:
To reduce inflammation and support weight loss, consider replacing seed oils with healthier fats. Extra virgin olive oil, for instance, is rich in anti-inflammatory compounds and monounsaturated fats that support heart health. Coconut oil is another great option, as it contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which can boost metabolism and aid in fat loss. Just as the Bible encourages us to avoid what is harmful, let’s be mindful of what we allow into our bodies.
Next, let’s talk about the gut. Your gut microbiome—a complex community of bacteria and other microorganisms in your digestive system—plays a crucial role in almost every aspect of your health, including weight management.
Get Wisdom, Get Understanding:
A healthy gut helps you digest food efficiently, extract nutrients, and maintain a balanced metabolism. However, an imbalanced gut microbiome—often caused by poor diet, stress, and antibiotic use—can lead to issues like weight gain, bloating, and insulin resistance. Certain bacteria in the gut can actually promote fat storage, while others help burn fat and regulate blood sugar.
Faith in Action:
To cultivate a healthy gut, prioritize foods that feed beneficial bacteria. These include high-fiber foods like vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, as well as fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi, which are rich in probiotics. Think of it as sowing good seeds, just as we are called to sow seeds of faith. Nurture your gut, and it will support you in your health journey.
Protein is an essential macronutrient that many people underestimate when trying to lose weight. It’s not just about building muscle—though that’s important too—but also about keeping your metabolism active and your hunger in check.
Get Wisdom, Get Understanding:
Protein has a high thermic effect, meaning your body burns more calories digesting protein compared to fats or carbs. It also helps preserve muscle mass during weight loss, which is crucial because muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than fat tissue. Additionally, protein helps regulate key hormones like ghrelin (the hunger hormone), making you feel fuller for longer and reducing cravings.
Faith in Action:
Aim to include a source of protein in every meal—whether it’s eggs, chicken, fish, meat, beans, greek yogurt, and the least processed, low-sugar protein powders.
This not only supports weight loss but also helps stabilize your energy levels throughout the day. Just as we seek to be spiritually strong, we should aim to build and maintain physical strength, treating our bodies as the temples they are.
Let’s dive into the science of blood sugar and how it impacts your weight. Three key hormones—insulin, leptin, and ghrelin—play significant roles in your hunger, satiety, and fat storage.
Get Wisdom, Get Understanding:
Faith in Action:
To keep these hormones in balance, focus on a diet rich in whole foods—vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Avoid man-made refined sugars and processed foods that spike insulin levels. Think of it as striving for balance in your life, much like our walk with Christ. Consistency and moderation are key. Eat with intention, just as we live with intention, seeking God’s guidance in every aspect of our lives.

Many of us have been on the dieting rollercoaster—losing weight only to gain it back, often with a few extra pounds. But why does this happen? The truth is, that restrictive dieting can wreak havoc on your metabolism and hormones.
Get Wisdom, Get Understanding:
When you drastically cut calories, your body perceives it as a threat and shifts into “starvation mode,” slowing down your metabolism to conserve energy. This metabolic slowdown makes it harder to lose weight and easier to gain it back once you return to normal eating. Additionally, restrictive diets can lead to nutrient deficiencies, loss of muscle mass, and increased stress hormones like cortisol, which can also contribute to weight gain.
Faith in Action:
Instead of chasing after quick fixes, focus on creating sustainable habits. Start small—replace one unhealthy habit with a healthier one, and build from there. This mirrors our walk with Christ, which is a journey of growth and transformation, not a sprint. Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God, who began a good work in us, will carry it on to completion. Trust in His process, both in your spiritual life and in your health journey.
The key to lasting change, both in your health and your spiritual life, is consistency. This means making daily choices that align with your values and your goals. When you focus on consistency rather than perfection, you’ll find that change comes more naturally.
Get Wisdom, Get Understanding:
Studies show that small, consistent changes are more effective for long-term weight loss than drastic diets. By making gradual improvements, you allow your body to adapt without triggering the survival mechanisms that lead to weight gain. Moreover, consistency in healthy habits helps regulate your hormones, stabilize your metabolism, and create a positive relationship with food.
Faith in Action:
Consistency in Christ is the foundation of all transformation. When we seek Him first, as Matthew 6:33 encourages, we align our desires with His will. This doesn’t mean the journey will be easy, but it does mean that we will have the strength, wisdom, and guidance to persevere. Let your faith be the anchor that keeps you steady, even when the world pulls you in different directions.
