7 Faith Lessons to Change Your Life! Part 1

Lesson 1: Know That is God Writing Your Story

I’m going to share my testimony on an upcoming podcast. It’s been on my heart for years, but honestly, I just haven’t had the courage—so fair warning, I might cry. But that’s okay.

People often assume a lot about me. They think I grew up with money or had an easy life. Let me tell you—they have no idea. When you’ve gone through really hard things, and it doesn’t look like it at all—that’s JESUS!

Here’s what I want you to take away:

You may have grown up poor like I did. You may have faced a broken or unhealthy home life as a teenager. Maybe you’ve felt ugly, fat, rejected, or hopeless. But do you know who was always there? Who was watching over you, leading you out of that pain, and turning it into dreams like books, podcasts, blogs, or testimonies that would help others find their way out too? God.

I’ve known God since I was very young, and I always believed He had plans for me. But when I looked at my life, I couldn’t see how any of it was possible. That’s why God must be first in all things.

  • If your pain comes first...
  • If your excuses come first...
  • If you’re so stuck in your story that you can’t see the goodness of God...

You’ll miss it.

Maybe today is the day to look up from your past and draw a line in the sand. Say, “That is who I was, but I’m moving forward with God today. He is going to do a NEW THING!”

Isaiah 43:18 reminds us: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!”

Picture yourself turning the pages of your past and opening a fresh, blank page. Give yourself the chance to believe with hopeful expectations. Have confidence in God that allows you to “fail your way to success,” knowing He is with you every step of the way.

Here’s the truth—Wherever God is not first, you’ll find frustration, pain, confusion, and struggle.

So take it to Him first:

  • Lord, give me wisdom to write this book, start this business, get fit, get out of debt, raise my kids right.
  • Lord, help me walk in the Holy Spirit gift of patience—with myself and with others.
  • Lord, have mercy on me and heal me.
  • Lord, show me what You have planned for me—I’m trusting You.

If you don’t cry out to God and prayerfully put Him first in everything, the areas you leave Him out of will become the very places you struggle most. Let today be the day you invite Him in, trusting Him to rewrite your story for His glory.

Lesson 2: God Alone Defines You!

Other People’s Opinions Are Not Your Truth

In today’s culture, you often hear people talking about “their truth.” It’s become a common phrase: “This is my truth.”But as Christians, we don’t measure ourselves by someone else’s truth—or even care what it is, to be honest. Our truth comes from God alone. Amen?

Take a moment to ask yourself:

  • Is the way I see myself influenced by anything other than who God says I am?
  • Who or what is defining how I think about myself, my worth, and whether I go after my God-given dreams?

The answer should always be Jesus. Only He has the authority to define you.

In my book, Fit God’s Way, I share a powerful exercise inspired by the movie Overcomer. In the film, a teacher tells a young girl to read the first two chapters of Ephesians and write down everything God says about her. If you’ve never done this before, I highly encourage you to try it.

Here’s just a glimpse of what you’ll find:

  • He chose you before the foundation of the world.
  • He predestined you to adoption.
  • He accepted you in the Beloved.
  • In Him, you have redemption through His blood and the forgiveness of sins.
  • He sealed you with the Holy Spirit of promise.
  • He made you alive when you were dead in sin.
  • You are His masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which He prepared beforehand for you to walk in.

And that’s just the beginning! Through Jesus, we have access to the Father, the hope of His calling, the riches of His glory, and the exceeding greatness of His power.

Take time to meditate on these truths. Let them define how you see yourself, how you think, and how you step forward into the dreams God placed on your heart.

You are who God says you are. No one else gets to define you—not the world, not others, and not even yourself.

Here’s a personal story I’ve never shared…

I remember sitting at a baseball game with a girl who is no longer my friend. She pointed to a man and said, “Look at his nose. He’s so ugly.” She went on and on about how hideous she thought he was.

I responded, “There’s a woman out there who will think that man is the most handsome person she’s ever seen.” Then, I ended the conversation with, “Your opinion is not God’s truth.”

Needless to say, we’re not friends anymore.

Here’s the thing: only God’s truth about you matters. No one else’s opinion can override that.

God doesn’t make mistakes. If people don’t like your hair, your body, your talent, or the way you do things—if that’s how God made you, that’s their problem, not yours.

True freedom comes when you let God define you, not people or their expectations.

Promise me this: Read Ephesians 1 and 2. Circle and write down everything God says about who you are and what you have in Jesus. That is your truth!

I can’t wait to share the next five lessons with you—stay tuned!

Remember, You are Strong. Confident. His.
