Overcoming the Comparison Trap

Comparison can lead to envy, strife, jealousy, and pride. It does not honor God if we think we are better or worse than someone. Prayerfully ask God to heal you from comparison because it could make you lose sight of who He made you to be and what He has for you.

How to Overcome Comparison with God’s Help

  1. Pinpoint who or what makes you compare and give God control over your self-view.
  2. Catch and replace the things you say about yourself that are not God’s truth of who you are and what He has planned for you.
  3. See yourself through the Word and learn key scriptures to pray over yourself.
  4. Note the things, people, and places that fuel comparison. If they are negative, surrender them to God.
  5. Remember to extend grace to others and yourself.

Faith Fuel - Scriptures for healing from comparison

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10 ESV)

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3 ESV)

“Let everyone be sure that he is doing his very best, for then he will have the personal satisfaction of work well done and won’t need to compare himself with someone else.” (Galatians 6:4 ESV)

“So don’t lose your confidence, since it holds a great reward for you.” (Hebrews 10:35 NKJV)
