If you struggle with weight loss, dieting, overeating, stress eating, or using food to cope, this will help you learn how to beat this with the Word, create Godly eating habits, and how to make a God-made plate of food.
Glorify God in Body and Spirit
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. – 1 Corinthians 6:12
Did you know Jesus wants to eat with you?
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. – Revelation 3:20
Many of us use food to cope with stress, we find ourselves mindlessly eating quite often. And although this coping mechanism may seem harmless, it can shake the foundation of health that we are trying to build into our lives.
It has been argued that if we just eat less and move more, then we will be healthy, happy, and fit, but I don’t buy it. It’s true, we might lose some weight, but this method assumes health and fitness is merely a matter of calories, however, not all calories are created equal. Let’s get down to business.
Carbohydrates have a very bad reputation. Most people think of carbs as the enemy, but they are essential for producing energy and building muscle. They are rich in fiber, satisfying, and healthful. Complex, God-made, carbohydrates are commonly found in whole plant foods and are typically high in vitamins and minerals.
Protein is an essential component to a balanced diet. However, carefully consider your protein sources. A hot dog is protein, but it’s man-made. The more we choose God-made foods, the healthier we will be.
People often think eating fat will make them fat, so they avoid it. But some fats are essential to our health. In fact, fat plays an important role in energy production, it satiates our appetites, and it makes our hair and skin look healthy and smooth. Including healthy fats in our diet can reduce the risk of diseases—diabetes, heart disease, obesity— and improve cholesterol levels.
Sugar is carefully hidden on many labels, and it doesn’t have any nutritional value. While there’s nothing wrong with occasionally enjoying ice cream or cookies, we need to retrain our taste buds to desire God’s naturally sweet foods, such as fruit.
“Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.” —1 Peter 5:8 amp
God-made food is not limiting, as there is a bounty of God-made foods available to us. A God-made plate includes a portion of lean protein, a God-made carbohydrate, and a healthy fat.
