Let’s dive into how our faith can transform our fitness goals

In today’s episode, I'm discussing the profound connection between your faith and your fitness journey.

Have you ever felt like you're constantly struggling to reach your goals or break free from unhealthy habits?

Jesus gives us a key in Matthew 9:29, where He says, “According to your faith, be it unto you.” This powerful truth highlights the impact of our beliefs on every aspect of life, including our fitness.

We become our words, so today I want you to think long and hard about how you talk about yourself and how you talk to yourself.

Many people ask me, “Why do I overeat? Why can’t I hit my goals? Why do I feel like I’m failing?” Today, we’ll tackle these emotions and discuss what happens if we don’t renew our minds with God’s Word!

Recently, I came across a book that really inspired me, Telling Yourself the Truth by William Backus, and it opened my eyes to how our thoughts shape our lives.

While our emotions can be influenced by our body chemistry, the great news is that we can change how we feel by caring for our bodies—eating nourishing, God-made foods, exercising, and treating ourselves with care.

But even more, our thoughts play a huge role. Right now, your thoughts are influencing the chemistry of your brain and your entire nervous system. That’s how powerful they are! The words you speak to yourself—those internal conversations—affect everything, including your body, muscles, and nerves.

Modern psychology often presents this as a new concept, but God revealed it long ago. Proverbs 23:7 says, “As he thinks in his heart, so is he.” And in Psalm 119:59 (NKJV), it says, “I thought about my ways and turned my feet to your testimonies.”

I wrote in my first book, Your body can’t rise above the level of your thoughts, so if you talk failure you can’t expect success.

Mark 3:25 says a house divided against itself cannot stand.

This means our bodies hear everything we say! And that we are becoming our words…

Jesus said, According to your faith, be it unto you.

Our thoughts shape our behavior, and that includes how we feel. Jesus emphasized faith over and over again—urging us to believe and trust in Him. He said, “According to your faith, be it unto you.” What we believe in shapes our lives.

So, let’s apply this to fitness. If you think your goals are out of reach or you see yourself as a failure, guess what?

That belief will manifest in your life. But what if you changed your mindset? What if you declared that no matter what challenges come your way in fitness or life, you will never be a failure because Christ is your strength? What if you stood on that truth?

You are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus! Romans 8:37

You are an Overcomer! According to 1 John 5:4-5

"For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith"

Your thoughts are powerful, and Jesus taught us to believe with purpose.

So, what are you believing today?

  • What are the words you're speaking to yourself?
  • Are there any lies or half-truths holding you back?
  • Identifying the lies we tell ourselves is the first step.

We need to challenge the lies with the truth of God’s Word, aligning our thoughts with His promises. Trust Him in the moment, obey His voice, and see how it transforms your journey.

Philippians 2:5 tells us, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”

Key Points:

  • Jesus’ teaching on faith from Matthew 9:29: “According to your faith be it unto you.”
  • How our biochemistry and emotions are affected by our thoughts and beliefs.
  • The impact of self-talk: Why the lies and half-truths we tell ourselves can hold us back from reaching our fitness goals.
  • The Bible’s ancient wisdom: Proverbs 23:7, Psalm 119:59, and Philippians 2:5 on the power of our thoughts and how they shape our actions and emotions.
  • How faith in Christ can lead to transformation in your fitness journey—mind, body, and spirit.

Scriptures Mentioned:

  • Matthew 9:29 – “According to your faith be it unto you.”
  • Proverbs 23:7 – “As he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
  • Psalm 119:59 (NKJV) – “I thought about my ways and turned my feet to Your testimonies.”
  • Philippians 2:5 – “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”

Action Steps:

  1. Identify the lies or misbeliefs you’ve been telling yourself about your fitness and your worth.
  2. Replace them with the truth of God’s Word. Start speaking life over your journey!
  3. Trust God with your fitness goals, believing that with Him, all things are possible.
