Erin Sanderson joins me on this brand new episode of the Strong. Confident. His. Podcast and Blog.
Here's what you can expect:
Erin lives in Nashville, TN with her husband Levi. They’ve been together for 20 years. They have 2 rescue pups. She was a touring musician her entire life. Erin toured the country sharing the stage with acts like Evanescence, Halestorm, Candlebox, and Skillet. And as a songwriter, she had songs featured on MTV, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Fuse TV, and many more.
Erin is so real, and fun, you’re going to love her. Here's an overview of our time together, but I highly recommend listening to this episode above, or HERE.
Kim: You built a brand as Fit Rocker Chick but you’ve recently updated your profile pages to Erin. Can you share what happened?
Erin: Early this year “fit rocker chick” just stopped feeling like me. It felt like the old me, almost like when you think back on your junior high/high school memories. For so long the image I created in my mind of “fit rocker chick” was the epitome of who I wanted to be.. But I outgrew it. I outgrew who I thought I could be. Only God, right?! Only God could have bigger plans for me than I had for myself.
Kim: In order to embrace the new what did you have to let go of?
Erin: I WEPT over changing my name to Erin Sanderson. Sounds so silly, but I had to grieve what that name allowed me to become. I also had to let go of the fact that some people might not like the change, that my biz could have negative effects, that it might cause confusion in the brand. But I’ve learned to move quickly when God tells me to move. Even if I don’t want to, or it’s scary, I have to move quickly.
Kim: Were you always fit?
Erin: No, haha! I spent the majority of my life playing gigs in smokey bars, eating Mcdonalds and Krispy Kremes.
Kim: What advice do you have for listeners/readers who have failed on fitness plans and fear chasing their dreams?
Erin: Failure is part of the deal. We don’t get to avoid it. So trying to avoid failure is literally a waste of energy and precious time. It’s when we let failure define us that we get stuck. Fear isn’t real anyway. Fear is a feeling or a thought, and you can control your thoughts and feelings. God gave us the power not to be bound by how we feel!
Kim: Have you ever struggled with confidence? Tell us a story?
Erin:
I failed math twice in high school and have struggled to learn the way other people seem to my whole life. For a long time I thought I wasn’t smart. That was hard because my husband is crazy smart, and so are all of my friends. Eventually I learned I am suuuuupppper smart!! I’m just not smart the same way they are! They’re book smart. But if you need someone who’s quick on their feet, who fast takes action in the critical moments, and someone who can talk their way out of a mob hit, I'm the girl you want by your side! And I like it that way. I’d rather be MY kind of smart than book smart any day!
Kim: What are some of the things that hold us back that we become attached to?
Erin:
Five Quick Questions:
Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for this time with Erin. I pray a blessing over the work of her hands. I feel they are sisters listening who have allowed what other people think of them or the fear of failure to paralyze their dreams.
By the power of the Holy Spirit working in them, free them from these lies of the enemy. Renew their minds to Your truth that you will do a new thing.
Let them be empowered and motivated by Erin’s unashamed and inspiring story.
In you we don't’ have to have all the answers, you just want us to be faithful and take steps in faith fully relying on you.
Today we trade, I'm not good enough or it’s too late, for I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
In Jesus name, amen!
Here's a scripture to help you today as you step out in faith:
Faith Fuel
Isaiah 43:2 says…
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”
God’s plan for you is bigger and better than what you can imagine, and...yes you CAN do it!
