Learn How to Transform your Diet Struggles into Peaceful Victories

Want to Transform your diet struggles into peaceful victories?

Today I will teach you how to embrace grace and freedom in Christ as you break free from diet culture's grip!

I know God is calling me to write this blog for you because every day I get emails, DMs, or comments on my posts with phrases like.

- I struggle with self-control, no matter how hard I try I always mess up.

- I was doing so good and then I gained 40 pounds back so I’m on whatever diet plan again but it’s not working why?

- I’m promising to eat cleaner and try harder to work out and I’m praying God will help me.

- I’ve tried every diet and I‘m heavier than ever I’m at the end of my rope I just can’t do this anymore. I’m so sad about how I look.

- And why do I keep sabotaging myself?

Every time I read these comments they hurt my heart! Ladies, we are so deceived by diet culture.

2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." Some translations say self-control and some say self-discipline, so let’s just say we want all three!

Isn't that empowering? It's a reminder that the self-control we exercise is not born out of fear or obligation, but out of the power of God's love and the soundness of His wisdom.

God revealed to me a different perspective on self-control – one that emphasizes choosing self-control as a path to peace, not perfection.

As a Christian, I’ve always thought about self-control as a rigid set of rules to follow, a means of restraining ourselves from indulgence. But God has shown me to see it differently – as a choice rooted in His grace, a choice that leads to peace and freedom in Christ.

These scriptures and action steps will guide your transformation from diet culture to freedom in Christ.

Let’s dive in!

Stand Firm in the Liberty That Christ Has Given You

Do you ever feel trapped in the snare of diet culture and the pressure to conform to society's standards of beauty and fitness and struggle with feelings of guilt and inadequacy whenever you fall short of these expectations?

I pray today you have a revelation that true freedom isn't found in striving for perfection or adhering to external standards, but in surrendering to God's grace and embracing the truth of who you are in Christ. With His strength as your anchor, you can see self-control – not as a burden, but as a gift of empowerment and liberation.

And dear friend, that's the heart of what I want to share with you today. As sisters-in-Christ, let's choose to stand firm in the liberty that Christ has given us. Let's release ourselves from the shackles of diet bondage and condemnation, and instead, let's walk hand-in-hand with our Savior, embracing His grace, His peace, and His abundant life.

As the apostle Paul reminds us in Galatians 5:1, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." And in verses  Galatians 5:22-23, he beautifully illustrates the fruits of the Spirit, among which is self-control.

Focus on Scripture

Here is a Scripture focus challenge that will Shift your food mindset about self-control from guilt to grace from perfection to peace.

In this challenge, we will go through 4 different steps to discover the true meaning of self-control through the lens of God's Word. Are you ready to embrace grace and freedom in Christ?

1: Set the Foundation Scripture Focus: Galatians 5:1 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."

Challenge: Reflect on what it means to stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made us free. Journal about any areas in your life where you may be feeling entangled by a yoke of bondage, and pray for God's guidance in breaking free. Here’s an example, obsessively thinking about what you eat, what other people think of you, or what you weigh.

2: The Fruit of the Spirit Scripture Focus: Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Challenge: Meditate on each fruit of the Spirit. How does self-control manifest as a fruit of the Spirit in your daily life? Examine what is not producing fruit in your life. Too much social media, hours spent on feeling sad or bad about yourself or your choices?  Identify one practical way you can exercise self-control this week, rooted in love, joy, and peace. When you feel guilt, sabotage, comparison, or condemnation sneak in, begin challenging yourself to spot it and choose self-control, peace, and joy.

3: Power, Love, and a Sound Mind/Self-Control Scripture Focus: 2 Timothy 1:7 Challenge: Memorize this powerful verse and recite it daily as a reminder  "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Reflect on how these qualities empower you to exercise self-control in your thoughts, words, and actions.

An example is taking control of your thoughts and casting your cares on God. Not spinning in an unhealthy thought loop of beating yourself up or self-sabotage!

4: Walking in Freedom Scripture Focus: Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

Challenge: Activate your faith by choosing to be under grace rather than under law.

How does understanding God's grace empower you to live a life of freedom and self-control? Write a letter to yourself, declaring your freedom from diet and body image bondage and embracing grace in all areas of your life.

Make This Mindset Shift:

As a Christian, I’ve always thought about self-control from the viewpoint of restraint, but God is teaching me that we also need to choose self-control to practice grace and peace with our choices. This is how we live free in Christ.

I pray this helped you begin to take steps to get free in Christ. Free from diet bondage, condemnation, and that you choose grace.

Diet culture has trained us to promise to do better, to eat cleaner, to work out harder, but in Jesus let’s remember we are free!

Remember You are Strong. Confident. His.
