Quiet That Inner Critic!
(Press play above to listen, or read the highlights below.)
Why are we so hard on ourselves?
Romans 8:1 tells us...
“Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior].”
But somehow it’s tough for these words to come off the page and into our thinking, right?
In your quiet moments, stop and reflect on this question: am I really failing, or am I not living up to a standard that someone else made for me?
Sweet friend, what extreme expectation or missed opportunity has a grip on you?
God blessed me to be on the 700 Club and Christian Broadcasting Network, CBN News. (In case you'd like to check out these episodes, I've included the links.) I talked a lot about this topic because the most important conversation you have is going on all day long and it’s with yourself.
Speaking the truth of who God says you are, and seeing yourself through His grace-filled Word, is how we quiet that inner critic!
Your inner dialogue is the steering wheel of your life, and like Carrie Underwood's song says, Jesus take the wheel.
In our world, it’s valued to be a perfectionist like when people say things like, "Oh you’re too hard on yourself or you're your worst critic," but it’s not healthy to be hard on yourself or be you own worst critic.
Because here’s the truth...whatever makes you doubt or question your worth has the ability to rob you, so take your power back!
Take all the negative self-talk, criticism, and if only and remember, it’s nailed to the cross. It won't do you one bit of good to beat yourself up, and although it’s easier said than done...Intentionally choose to say this when the inner critic won't stop...
Because He is enough, I will always be enough.
Matthew 11:28-30 says,
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
I wrote this prayer for you.
Dear God,
Being hard on ourselves makes us feel trapped in a thought cycle of defeat, it’s a hateful negative conversation that drains the life out of our dreams and joy from our hearts. While we know we can’t go back and redo the past or create a perfect version of ourselves tomorrow, in you, we can be free to love ourselves and be our own best friend right where we are in this moment, with you. Holy Spirit give us a nudge when the critical conversation begins and remind us that we are enough because you are enough.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
I have a saying, and I smile every time I say it,
In Jesus, you have all the likes you need… feel free to share that!
Okay now you know I’m never going to leave you without asking you to get into action…nothing happens without action.
So it’s about that time!
