Why Is Consistency So Hard—and How to Fix It!

Listen to this Strong. Confident. His. Podcast Episode

Ever wonder why it's so hard to be consistent?

Join me in this episode as we uncover what’s really been missing—God’s power in you. If you’ve been struggling to stay consistent in your fitness journey, it’s time to stop relying on your own strength and start tapping into His.

Charles Stanley said it best:
“His presence in us means His power through us.”
This is the piece we’ve been missing from our goals! We are not supposed to do this alone—we need Him.

Why Consistency Matters

God’s Word reminds us that staying consistent isn’t about immediate results—it’s about trusting His timing.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” — Hebrews 12:11

Consistency and discipline are about staying faithful even on the hard days because we know that God honors our efforts.

The Lie of Instant Results

The world sells us the lie that we can have results without effort. We see before-and-after pictures but never the hard work, sacrifice, or discipline behind the transformation.

But here’s the truth: Lasting change comes from showing up, staying consistent, and trusting God in the process.

3 Biblical Keys to Consistency

1. God is Consistent—We Can Trust Him

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” — Hebrews 13:8

Just as God is unwavering, He calls us to reflect His steadfast nature in our daily lives. When we commit to consistency in honoring our bodies, we align ourselves with His faithfulness.

2. Discipline and Diligence Lead to Fruitfulness

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” — Hebrews 12:11

Discipline in fitness—whether through exercise, nutrition, or mindset—feels hard in the moment, but it yields lasting rewards when done with the right heart.

3. Small, Daily Steps of Obedience Matter

“Whoever is faithful with very little is also faithful with much.” — Luke 16:10

The little, consistent choices—choosing whole, God-made food, moving your body, and spending time in prayer—build the foundation for greater transformation.

3 Practical Tips to Restore Consistency

1. Start Small

  • Struggling to work out? Start with just 5-10 minutes a day of movement, like stretching or a short walk.
  • Overwhelmed with meal prep? Prepare one healthy meal or snack at a time instead of planning an entire week.
  • New to daily prayer or Bible reading? Commit to 2-3 minutes in the morning to build the habit.

Small wins create momentum and confidence to keep going.

2. Use Visual Reminders

  • Write Galatians 6:9 on a sticky note and place it on your fridge or bathroom mirror.
  • Keep a note in your workout space that says, “Consistency honors God, not perfection.”
  • Visual cues keep you focused on your commitment.

3. Plan Ahead

  • Lay out your workout clothes the night before.
  • Create a simple weekly meal plan with easy, healthy options.
  • Schedule prayer and Bible study time in your calendar.

Having a plan removes decision fatigue and makes it easier to stay committed.
